Bucharest will be the world capital of 3 × 3 basketball for three days and will host a super-tournament in an exclusive location. FIBA 3 × 3 World Finals is played between September 17 and 19 right in the Palace of Parliament, in the Union Hall.
The event organized by the Romanian Basketball Federation and Sport Arena Streetball will bring together 24 national teams that will fight for the three titles: the champion of the FIBA 3×3 U23 Nations League, men’s and women’s circuits and the women’s tour champion.
Unlike last seasons, when the champion was decided at the end of the season based on the rankings, this year, for the first time in the Romanian capital, the best teams will be decided after the final tournaments.
The access for the spectators will be free, nevertheless, with the sanitary norms in force and with the protocol imposed by the International Federation. Thus, within the available seats, spectators will have access based on the digital vaccination certificate, a rapid test or negative PCR or with proof of going through the disease (maximum 90 days from diagnosis).
Romania will be represented in all three competitions, the men’s and women’s U23 teams, as well as the senior women’s national team, thanks to its quality as the host country. Romania had the spot secured in the final of the Women’s Series, the women’s world circuit, due to the rankings from this year events, obtaining two podiums , the 3rd place at the Voiron and Poitiers stops.
It is the first time in history that the Palace of Parliament will host a basketball competition, but not the first-time basketball is played inside the imposing building. In 2011, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Romanian Basketball Federation, Sport Arena Streetball installed a basketball court on which a slam-dunk contest and a children’s demonstration match took place.
The three days of competition will accumulate almost 50 3 × 3 basketball matches. The FIBA 3 × 3 U23 Nations League Final matches will be played on Friday at 14.00 and on Saturday at 11.00, and the matches in the FIBA 3 × 3 Women’s Series Final will be played on Saturday at 18.30 and on Sunday at 17.00.
There will be entertainment moments offered by the band of professional dancers led by Aura Vidroiu as well as by the cheerleading band Dracula’s Girls.
FIBA 3 × 3 World Finals is an event organized by the Romanian Basketball and Sport Arena Streetball Federation under the high patronage of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee, which includes the finals of the FIBA 3 × 3 Women’s Series, funded by the City Hall of Sector 3 and FIBA 3 × 3 U23 Nations League, funded by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
