Sport Arena UPB, among the six best teams in the world

Sport Arena UPB finished among the six best teams at FIBA 3×3 World Tour Final (Miami, 21-23 September), the climax of the first ever FIBA 3×3 World Tour.

The Romanian team advanced from the group phase with three wins and two deafeats, beating on the way to the quarter finals the winners from Madrid Masters, Team Split from Croatia, the finalists from Vladivostok Masters, Team Khabarovsk from Russia and the winners of the Sao Paolo Masters, Team Neuquen from Argentina. Sport Arena UPB lost a tough game against the eventual champions, San Juan from Porto Rico, and another, the last of the round robin, against the locals from Miami.

Facing Team Ljubljana in the quarter finals, Romanians had a nightmare start of the game and never recovered. Even they fought back and cut the gap to only two points in the last seconds of the game, they missed the opportunity to level the score and to force the overstime, losing 18-20.

The bitterness of the defeat was somehow sweetened by Angel Santana, who won the Samsung Shootout Contest.

San Juan from Porto Rico crowned as the first ever champion of the FIBA 3×3 World Tour in Miami.
