Romania, in the last 16 at WC, beat USA

The Romanian 3×3 basketball national team finished in the last sixteen at the first ever 3×3 World Championship, held in Athens between 23-26 August 2012, beating USA Basketball on their way to the knock-out round.

The success against USA is an historic one for the Romanian Basketball and the game was just amazing, with Angel Santana nailing a three pointer with 3 seconds to go, for a 15-14 victory.

Santana&Co played after just two hours another crucial game, against Russia, and they failed to advance to the quarter finals, even the Russian team had only two players on the court in the last minute, the other two being fouled out.

The winners of the first ever World Championship on 3×3 basketball were Serbia, in the male tournament, USA, in the women tournament and France in the mixed competition.
