3×3 basketball symphony at SA-BC

Just few meters away from the most iconic building in Bucharest, the Romanian Athenaeum, a different kind of symphony was played during the Sport Arena Bucharest Challenger, the FIBA 3×3 qualifier hosted by the Romanian Capital city.

The transformation of a parking place in a state of the art arena for 3×3 basketball took not more than 10 hours and the changes were spectacular. So was the show, with some of the best teams from Europe and the best four Romanian teams featuring in a block buster next to the high-flyers from Slovenia, the Dunking Devils.

Well known all over the world, the Dunking Devils provided some highlight material but the real battle was not up in the air, but down on the courts.

Fighting the heat, all 16 teams were thinking of another kind of Heat, the one from Miami, the final destination of the FIBA 3×3 World Tour. And what a tough challenge it was.

About 4000 fans filled up the stands in both day of the competition combined and their support for the host teams was highly rewarded, with three out of four advancing to the quarter finals, and two of them playing in the final for the 3000 euros prize and a place in FIBA 3×3 World Tour Masters Istanbul.

In the end “Pensionarii Asigurati” proved to be unbeatable, confirming the great shape showed also in the Prague Open, where they finished second.

The Romanian with Spanish origin, Angel Santana, from the winning team, was named the tournament MVP. Meanwhile, Dusan Bulut from SK Millenium (Serbia) won the 3 point shootout and Georg Rulling from Hofi’s Panzerkracker (Austria) was fast enough to secure the Skills Challenge title.
