Romania, for the first time at FIBA 3×3 All Star, in Doha

Romania will be represented for the first time at the FIBA 3×3 All Stars, which will take place in Doha, Qatar, on 12 December. The best 3×3 players in the world will battle for 120.000 USD prize money.

Angel Santana, the number one in Europe, will lead Team Bucharest, the only 3×3 basketball team in the world who took part in all FIBA 3×3 World Tour Finals. Santana, European Champion with the Romanian National Team, will play together with Iulian Corneanu and Cristian Craciun, his teammates from Stiinta Bucharest, a second league Romanian team. The roster will be completed with Alejandro Machin, a former teammate of Santana, from Spain.

Team Bucharest, fourth in the 2014 FIBA 3×3 World Tour final, couldn’t line up the best roster in Doha. Bogdan Popescu, Catalin Vlaicu and Vasile Stefan, the usual teammates of Santana, all European Champions, are unavailable due to their presence in the Romanian National Basketball League, together with their respective club teams.

The second edition of the FIBA 3×3 All Stars sees six teams from around the world meet on 12 December for one day in Doha, Qatar, starring the: #1 player in Europe, #1 player in the Americas, #1 player in Qatar, #1 player in the rest of the world (all of the above with their respective usual team), #1 team at the 2014 FIBA 3×3 World Tour, #1 U18 player in the world with his usual team.

The 6 teams are divided into two pools of three teams playing in a round-robin first round against their two respective pool opponents. The top-two placed teams from each pool advance to a standard knockout round which starts at the semi-finals stage.

The tournament has a total of 120.000 USD money prize, with the winner receiving 25.000 USD, while each team has a 10.000 USD appearance fee.
