One hoop, two teams, three friends, play! Game on, Sport Arena Streetball Tour 2017

Over  500 players are expected to show up for the 3×3 basketball national tour opener, this weekend. Sport Arena Streetball Tour 2017 kicks off on the traditional courts at University Politehnica of Bucharest, May 27th-28th, and features 10 stops in seven cities: Bucharest, Iași, Suceava, Oradea, Timișoara, Constanța and Craiova.

3×3 basketball is coming home to where the Sport Arena Streetball fairytale started back in 2005, looking forward to the completion its 13th chapter.

Registration for the first stop the 2017 tour, Politehnica Streetball by Raiffeisen Bank, started on Monday, at 15:00 local time, and finished in less than a day, as the maximum of 130 teams was reached. The event features four age categories, both for men and women: Under 14 (including players born in 2003), Under 18 (including players born in 1999), Open and Over 35 (including players born in 1982).

While 3 × 3 basketball is likely to become an Olympic discipline this year, the ever-growing community of 3×3 basketball fans meets at the birth land of the Sport Arena Streetball project, where teenagers learned to dribble and feel at the pace of the most popular urban sport. The International Olympic Committee will announce this summer its decision on whether 3×3 basketball will be included on the Olympic Games’ roster. This discipline could be present at Tokyo 2020, especially since the phenomenon has grown globally in recent years.

Sport Arena Streetball, a member of the FIBA ​​3×3 Board as a representative of the organizers around the world, has supported this FIBA ​​effort ever since 2013, by staging a showcase tournament attended by CIO members and by launching a dedicated campaign “From the streets to the Olympic Games” – which will be resumed this season.

Players at the Politehnica Streetball by Raiffeisen Bank stop have the chance to enjoy the relaxed, fresh and entertaining atmosphere of Sport Arena Streetball competitions, to win the prizes offered by the organizers and to gather points in the FIBA ​​3×3 World Rankings.
