Romania 3×3 NT, in search for another European success

Both Romania’s 3×3 National Teams, men and women, will take part in the 3×3 Europe Cup Qualifiers during this summer. The 2017 tournaments will be hosted again by Andorra and France, while the 3×3 Europe Cup will take place in Netherlands, between 7th and 9th of July.

To get their tickets for Amsterdam, the women team will play in Andorra (June 24-25) along with Hungary, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Andorra, Slovakia, Estonia and Turkey. Top five teams will advance for 3×3 Europe Cup 2017.

Romania finished second in 2016, on their home court, in Bucharest, topped only by Hungary. The silver medalists were Gabriela Marginean, Sonia Ursu, Anca Sipos and Andra Haas.

After winning the title back in 2014, the men team reached the quarter finals last year, being defeated by the number one team in the world, Serbia. Romanians have the chance to meet again with their neighbors and rivals in France (June 23-24), for a spot at the 3×3 Europe Cup. Netherlands, Italy, France, Hungary, Switzerland, Turkey, Slovakia, Belgium, Croatia and Denmark will be the other teams to play in Poitiers. Top six teams will advance.

Romania’s National Teams will have the chance, as in each of the past years, to test their skills in the Sport Arena Streetball tournaments, prior to their participation in the international competitions. The 2017 season of the most popular 3×3 competition in Romania will start in May and will include again tournaments in some of the biggest Romanian cities. In 2016, more than 90 percent of the ranking points accumulated by Romania in the FIBA 3×3 Federation Rankings were brought by Sport Arena Streetball.

3×3 basketball is facing one of the most anticipated years since the 2010, when the discipline was first introduced to the world, during the Youth Olympics in Singapore. In 2017, there is a big chance that 3×3 basketball will be announced as part of the Olympic Games, starting with Tokyo 2020 edition, which will definitely be a huge step forward for this fast developing entertaining discipline.
